A review and change to the modern Awards
The Fair Work Commission has been undertaking their 4-yearly review of modern Awards across a range of industries.
The biggest change to the Awards is the language and layout of the content. The Commission has clarified how some award clauses work and changed other clauses.
This means that your award should be simpler and easier to understand. The rules and entitlements in your award may not change significantly.
The first of three tranches of awards apply from the first full pay period on or after 4 February 2020. So, if your pay week is from Monday to Sunday, the new awards take effect from Monday 10 February 2020.
I’m an employee. What do I need to do?
If you’re an employee, you don’t need to do anything just yet. However, you can check if your Award is in this first stage rollout on the Fair Work Commission website.
I’m an employer. What do I need to do?
Employers, you are required to make a copy of the award/s available to your staff members – you can do this on a noticeboard, or through an electronic means (e.g. staff email newsletter, intranet, etc.). You’ll need to make sure this is updated when the new award starts applying. More information about which awards are changing is on the Fair Work Commission website.
